From: Perfect Sound Forever Subject: monochrome Date: 13/11/97 09:45:02 MONOCHROME Pretty song and very easy to play. For the verse, keep your middle finger on the 1st string, 2nd fret for the first three chords, then release it for the A7sus4 or whatever. The second chord is the same as in the Cranberries' "Linger" (d'ohh!!). For effect in the chorus, slide into both Bm's and the F#m7 up from the fret below -- the F#m7 sounds especially sweet this way. VERSES ("(It) was four in the morning, July in '69..."): D/002032/Gmaj7 (320002)/002030 (A7sus4?) CHORUS ("They're dancing around..."): Bm/Em/F#m7(242222)/Em Bm/Em/F#m (hold for two measures)/G (hold for two measures) BRIDGE: C/Bm C/Bm/Bb/D (end song on D) ------------------------------------- From: Tim Nichols Subject: re: monochrome date: unknown In a message dated 13/11/97 09:45:02, you write: << MONOCHROME Pretty song and very easy to play. VERSE: listen to when the verse chords are played in the intro on the CD. It remains on D, but only with the last three strings played (XXX232), until 0.13s (4th beat, 6th bar) when it changes to (XXX230) rather than (002030). What you need to do while strumming this is put in some of the bass with your thumb and by briefly relieving your index finger of its duties on the second fret of the G-string (no jokes please). The bass starts on a D, but since the guitar's D is too high and sounds naff I recomend playing F# with your thumb on the second fret of the E-string. For the first two bars the F# is plucked on the first beat and let ring. Leading into the third bar use your thumb to slide from F to F# (fret 1 to 2 on E-string). Then pluck the open E-string at the beginning of the 3rd and 4th bars. Leading into the 5th bar, pluck the open A-string and hammer on to the 2nd fret with your index finger. Then pluck G (3rd fret on E-string) at the beginning of the 5th and 6th bars. Leading into the 7th bar Play a B with your index finger on the A-string's 2nd fret. Then at the end of the 8th bar start again. Except it is slightly different. But not much. You'll work it out. I think the chorous is slightly wrong too. The F#m chord sounds more like (224222) than (242222) to me and I think the second half of the chorous is: Bm/Em/F#m/Em/G I don't know what "two measures" are but the F#m and following Em are played for half the length of the two chords preceding them. Has this made any sense to anyone? I tried drawing TABS but I'm not very good at it and they just looked a mess. Tim ------------------------------------- From: Brandon Milner Subject: Tab for "monochrome" I saw several people try and post TAB to monochrome and since I didn't agree with any of them I thought I would take a stab at it myself. They were close but both of them have the 2nd chord in the verse wrong, and they definitely have that last chord in the bridge wrong. So here is my version. Note, there are MANY guitar tracks on the CD (I mean like 2-3 acoustics and at least 2 electrics) so I tried to come up with parts that captured the essence of several parts at once :) Each dash is an eighth note... |2-------2-------|2-----0-0-------| |3-------3-------|3-----3-3-------| Here is the pattern for the verse. |2-------0-------|0-----0-0---!---| On the 2nd half of the 4th chord, |0-------2-------|0-----0-2-------| he emphasizes the open G string as |0-------2-------|X-----X-0-------| bass note. |X-------0-------|3-----3-X-------| |2-------0-------|2---4---3-2-5---| here's the chorus pattern. |3-------3-------|2---2---3-3-3---| Note the chords change twice |2-------0-------|2---2---0-0-0---| as fast toward the end of the phrase |4-------2-------|4---4---2-2-2---| |2-------2-------|4---4---2-2-0---| |X-------0-------|2---2---0-0-X---| |2-------0-------|2---0---3-2-----| |3-------3-------|2---3---3-3-----| |2-------0-------|2---0---0-0-----| |4-------2-------|4---2---0-0-----| |2-------2-------|4---2---X-X-----| |X-------0-------|2---0---3-3-----| |2-------2---5---|2-------2---3-56| the bridge goes something like |0-------3---3---|0-------3---3---| |0-------4---4---|0-------4---3---| |X-------4---4---|X-------4---0---| |3-------2---X---|3-------2---X---| |X-------X---X---|X-------X---X---| Cmaj9 Bm bm7 Cmaj9 Bm Gm/D Does that sound more correct? I understand the versions posted before were more simple on purpose but I thought I would go all out and try and write some of the passing chords in too. ------------------------------------- From: Charles Seymour Subject: s/sundays/monochrome.crd Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 14:52:14 -0700 (PDT) Transcribed by: Charles Seymour Intro and verses (e.g. "it's 4 in the morning...") I think Gauvin does this often ("Here's Where the Story Ends"), and its a common enough trick for guitarists (Lennon's "Dear Prudence.")
